"My kids are my life"

I am standing in the checkout line at my local pharmacy with a fever of 102 and chills and aches. I just want to die at this point from the cold or flu that is mercilessly attacking my body. All I want to do is get my medicine and go home.

I am standing behind a 30ish woman with two kids. One is about three, the other an infant in a carry along.

"My kids are my life"
Lady to clerk " blah,blah,blah...something about price reduction because of a sign", "I want this fixed!"
Clerk " Maam, if you'll please step to the next register the manager will assist you with that."
Lady (with an attitude)"My kids are my life and they need their things and I can't keep paying extra just 'cause you can't remember to change your signs!" (as she says this she puts carry along on counter)

Manager arrives and processes the price reduction for the grand amount of......$1.72.

OMFG!! REALLY?!!  She made a scene over $1.72? I would've given it to her just for her to shut up!!

She again repeats her "My kids" spiel ,looking at every person as she does, while she leaves the store....
forgetting the infant on the counter.

The manager's eyes and mine meet with a smirk of ..."OH REALLY?"

Me "Maam!" I yelled, which shocked everyone, and damn near made my head explode.
      "aren't you forgetting something?"
She turned with a "what the hell you want" look in her eyes.
"What do you have to say?"
Lady "No...now what is it that YOU think that I forgot?" with an accusatory attitude.

"Um Mommy....where you going?"
Me "Oh nothing Maam..just your child!" " I can see how you could forget though...the whole $1.72  vs.
your kids are your life thing, easy to forget ."

"That should shut her up!"
That knocked the attitude right out of her like a punch to the gut.
"I'm the worst mother ever"

Her head is now pointed to the ground as she mumbles," Thank you Sir." and ," I'm sorry."
as she picks up her infant and leaves the store.

"Wow...did that just happen?"
As I look around , I see the faces of the other people there. Some in astonishment that she had forgotten her child. Some in amazement at what I had said to her. All of us shaking our heads in disbelief of the situation.
